Dr. Rosie Milligan brings the Black Writers On Tour Writers’ Conference and Southern California Black Business Expo together all under one roof in Carson, California—a Los Angeles

neighboring city
.
This powerful one-day event will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 9:00 A.M to 6:00 P.M at the Congresswoman JMM Community Center, 801 E. Carson Street, Carson, California 90746. This conference will be more dynamic than ever, showcasing more than 100 Black authors, and 50 plus black businesses showing their products and services.  There will be literary agents and publishers gathering for this powerful one-day event. The publishing industry has changed; the Internet, Social Media, E-books and Print-On-Demand have taken the publishing industry in a completely new direction. The days are gone forever for aspiring writers to have to beg and to wait to have their work published. This conference has been designed to provide writers and aspiring writers with the practical information they need to be successful in the literary industry. This year’s theme is,
“Literacy is Everybody’s Business—Businesses Thriving Versus Surviving?”
There will be local authors and authors from across the country participating. For past events we have had 3,000 plus in attendance.
Employment is creeping back up, salaries are increasing, gas prices are down, and people are back to feeling good about spending again. The Ferguson Protests inspired Black America to re-think how and who they spend their dollars with. Blacks are looking for black owned businesses to do business with—so why not your business? And people are still looking for a great book to read.

Black Writers On Tour
is designed to connect you with readers, as well as to arm you with current information regarding the publishing industry and the new trends. There are many authors who are doing well; they are the ones who keep abreast of what’s happening in the industry and they make themselves visible.  Black businesses will gain exposure and increase their bottom line—profits.  If the public does not know that you have a book, product or service they can’t purchase it. There will be workshops and seminars for writers/aspiring writers and for the general public throughout the day. You will get a chance to meet and greet authors from across the country. You will discover the many black owned businesses that are showcasing products and services that you are currently using but purchasing from a non-black business.

It has been two years since Los Angeles has hosted a Black Business Expo. Showcasing Black Businesses is more critical now than ever before. It is important that black businesses survive and thrive—jobs come from businesses. Every time a black business closes its doors, another black person and, in many cases, his/her family members who were employees for the family business suffer. Years ago, when one’s business failed, he/she could say, “Well, I guess I will have to go back to work for someone else again.”  Today, this is not often an option—it’s more critical than you think for black folks. Poverty and illiteracy hurt us all in one way or another.
